Born Again Play Again

Told you we are not dead yet. Gobling had its first jamming session with new members Baderul (bass) and Nazreen (drums) on 14-Dec evening in Dahlia Sound Studio (DSS). Equipment offered there were measly, but the spirit was something else. Jammed out simple stuff and extended some jams, just to get a feel of how to play together.

Bad had a wonderful set of fingers, yet he dared saying that he hadn't played for 10 years! Nah, we don't believe him! He must either have been practising secretly or he is just plain talented. Haha!

Nazreen had the strokes and tempo needed from a drummer. It was just that he was too shy to show us his skills, but he came up with some really good rolls at our coaxing in the end. We had the good fortune to see him play some Sweet Charity and Lefthanded covers too at the end of the evening!

Well, give us a few months to get each other's feel of techniques before we resume writing originals to your pleasure. Or annoyance. Whatever.

Time To Move On

It's official. Gobling will be soldiering on with a grateful new line-up. There will be a change of musical direction as well- we'll be pulling more influences from early Sub Pop stuff in addition to our plethora of influences. We have always wanted to play more stuff in that vein, but in the past, we had to deal with that painful generation gap. No more. We will resume jamming pretty soon to see what the born-again band has to offer. New songs, new sounds. Some songs will be recycled to fit the new mould. This is all about old DIY spirit and not relying to other people for resources. If only Malaysia still have that underground music spirit we lived on back in the late 80s to mid 90s. And expect a full length release by end of 2006.

We will update the biography page soon once we collect enough photos. Time to send the kids back to the kindergarten.

The Perils Of Keeping A Band Alive

Wake up. A band is just like an NGO- you got things to say, and you must be active saying it. You need to organize funding for it. You need to collect money, time, and effort into it. Being in a band is NOT a pastime. A band has a life of its own. And yes, you have to sacrifice. Recording a song, playing a gig, buying gears, buying CDs/DVDs/tapes- all those need investment.

We have got recordings to complete, and the band is lying low at the moment due to some emotional instability. We hope this will be temporary, and everyone will get back in shape soon to regroup to continue playing. All of us hopefully will never lose the main objective of playing in this band. Like someone said, "the band does not need us, we need the band".

Thanks for being patient with us. We will not disappoint you. Gobling is not dead yet.
